Tropical pen device IQOS in San José: the order shortlist
Tropical in San José: 8 units tested over 9 weeks, pen device formats, priced per 10 ml for Costa Rica.
How to tell a good pen device from a repack
If you are looking at tropical in Costa Rica, the first question is not strength. It is whether the pen device you are quoting actually fits the device on your desk.
Tropical pen device reviews tend to be written after one tank. We run 8 units and 9 days per unit, because that is where the honest answer changes.
Below is the run we did for this search: 8 units, pen device, same room temperature, same juice rotation. Where results varied, the variation is printed rather than averaged away.
What a tropical pen device really costs in San José
A tropical pen device from the pre-order options in Costa Rica costs about ₡3.34 per 10 ml once delivery is counted. That number decides whether the habit survives the first month, not the sticker price.
How we tested tropical in a pen device
- Choose strength against the ceiling in Costa Rica, which is the local legal limit for retail here.
- Order before 14:00 so the parcel leaves the same day and lands inside 4–9 business days.
- Pick the pen device that fits the device already on your desk, not the one on the headline page.
- The landed price per 10 ml after 4–9 business days, which is the only number worth comparing.
- Returns window and who pays return postage when a pen device arrives sealed but wrong.
- Batch code and production date, so a tropical bottle turned in 9 weeks ago is not sold as new.
- Coil type inside the pen device, because mesh and wire age at different rates.
Where tropical goes wrong
- Chasing a discount on a pen device that then needs an adapter nobody in Costa Rica stocks.
- Ordering in bulk without checking whether couriers in Costa Rica accept nicotine freight.
- Buying the cheapest pen device available and repeating it because the first coil burnt.
The rules that apply here
Costa Rica regulates nicotine imports under its health authority. Shipping of nicotine to Costa Rica runs through tracked freight only, which is why the quoted window is stated per order.
Retail sales in Costa Rica sit under the same nicotine the label declares, which is the local legal limit. Anything above it is not sold through this channel.

Frequently asked questions
How long does tropical in a pen device last?
In San José we measured 9 to 8 days per unit depending on the coil. The bottle outlasts the coil, so the coil is what you replace.
Do you ship tracked orders to Costa Rica?
Yes, tracked to 4–9 business days, with the same-day cut-off at 14:00. Bulk orders get an import note attached before dispatch.
What nicotine strength should tropical start at?
Start at whatever Costa Rica allows on the label. If you already smoke, drop one step; if not, half of it for a pen device.
