Salted pod kit IQOS in San José: the compare shortlist
Salted in San José: 23 units tested over 4 weeks, pod kit formats, priced per 10 ml for Costa Rica.
How to tell a good pod kit from a repack
Salted in a pod kit is not the same product you see in a catalogue photo, and the price per 10 ml is where the gap shows. In San José the liquid, the coil and the power setting all have to agree before the flavour actually lands.
We run salted the same way in San José: same pod kit, same 4 days, same coil resistance. The only variable was the coil, and that turned out to be the thing buyers get wrong.
The short version: salted in San José works if the pod kit, the coil and the strength are chosen as one system. Everything below is what we measured while doing exactly that.
What a salted pod kit really costs in San José
If you are looking at salted in Costa Rica, the first question is not strength. It is whether the pod kit you are quoting actually fits the device on your desk.
How we tested salted in a pod kit
- Order before 14:00 so the parcel leaves the same day and lands inside 4–9 business days.
- Pick the pod kit that fits the device already on your desk, not the one on the headline page.
- Choose strength against the ceiling in Costa Rica, which is the local legal limit for retail here.
- The landed price per 10 ml after 4–9 business days, which is the only number worth comparing.
- Batch code and production date, so a salted bottle turned in 4 weeks ago is not sold as new.
- Returns window and who pays return postage when a pod kit arrives sealed but wrong.
- Clear PG/VG ratio on the label, which predicts throat hit more accurately than strength.
Where salted goes wrong
- Matching strength to the device instead of the draw, which is why salted tastes flat after two days.
- Chasing a discount on a pod kit that then needs an adapter nobody in Costa Rica stocks.
- Mixing salted with a coil rated for a different wattage, which dulls the flavour and drains liquid faster.

Frequently asked questions
Why does salted taste burnt?
Almost always the coil, not the liquid. On the pod kit units we ran, a coil past 5 days turned the salted blend itself harsh.
How long does salted in a pod kit last?
In San José we measured 4 to 23 days per unit depending on the coil. The bottle outlasts the coil, so the coil is what you replace.
Is buying in bulk actually cheaper?
Not automatically. On salted the budget price and the premium price can sit within ₡1.97 per 10 ml once 4–9 business days is counted.
