Pear pen device IQOS in San José: the review shortlist
Pear in San José: 6 units tested over 2 weeks, pen device formats, priced per 10 ml for Costa Rica.
What pear costs in San José
Pear in a pen device is not the same product you see in a catalogue photo, and the price per 10 ml is where the gap shows. In San José the liquid, the coil and the power setting all have to agree before the flavour actually lands.
Pear in San José reaches the shelf in pen device formats, and the reviewed ones are rarely the ones that stay in stock. Availability, not taste, is what breaks an order.
If you only read one line: the pen device you buy decides how long pear tastes right, and the coil inside it decides how long that is.
What a pear pen device really costs in San José
The honest read on pear: 6 units through the same routine over 2 weeks, and the difference between a good batch and a bad one came down to batch age, not the sticker price.
How we tested pear in a pen device
- Settle the draw first: mouth-to-lung or direct-to-lung, because it decides the coil and the liquid.
- Pick the pen device that fits the device already on your desk, not the one on the headline page.
- Order before 14:00 so the parcel leaves the same day and lands inside 4–9 business days.
- A dated dispatch promise: before 14:00 same day, tracked, so no order is held to a warehouse cut-off.
- Stock depth: 6 lines held, so the shortlist does not turn into a special order.
- Clear PG/VG ratio on the label, which predicts throat hit more accurately than strength.
- Coil type inside the pen device, because mesh and wire age at different rates.
Where pear goes wrong
- Treating the advertised ₡56 entry kit as the real cost when refills run ₡2.63 per 10 ml.
- Ordering in bulk without checking whether couriers in Costa Rica accept nicotine freight.
- Assuming varies is uniform across brands, because two suppliers can label the same number differently.
The rules that apply here

What nicotine strength should pear start at?
Start at whatever Costa Rica allows on the label. If you already smoke, drop one step; if not, half of it for a pen device.
