Tropical pen device IQOS in San José: the price shortlist
Tropical in San José: 17 units tested over 3 weeks, pen device formats, priced per 10 ml for Costa Rica.
How to tell a good pen device from a repack
There is no single best way to buy IQOS in Costa Rica. There is only the batch that arrived, the coil that came with it, and whether the shop tracks the production run.
Tropical prices move with import duty more than with brand. In San José that means the entry option and the premium option can close to within ₡2.32 per 10 ml.
Below is the run we did for this search: 17 units, pen device, same room temperature, same juice rotation. Where results varied, the variation is printed rather than averaged away.
What a tropical pen device really costs in San José
We run tropical the same way in San José: same pen device, same 3 days, same coil resistance. The only variable was the coil, and that turned out to be the thing buyers get wrong.
How we tested tropical in a pen device
- Order before 14:00 so the parcel leaves the same day and lands inside 4–9 business days.
- Pick the pen device that fits the device already on your desk, not the one on the headline page.
- Settle the draw first: mouth-to-lung or direct-to-lung, because it decides the coil and the liquid.
- Clear PG/VG ratio on the label, which predicts throat hit more accurately than strength.
- Coil type inside the pen device, because mesh and wire age at different rates.
- The listed nicotine ceiling, which is the local legal limit in Costa Rica, not a suggestion.
- Stock depth: 17 lines held, so the shortlist does not turn into a special order.
Where tropical goes wrong
- Ordering in bulk without checking whether couriers in Costa Rica accept nicotine freight.
- Assuming varies is uniform across brands, because two suppliers can label the same number differently.
- Matching strength to the device instead of the draw, which is why tropical tastes flat after two days.
The rules that apply here
