Tobacco cartomizer IQOS in San José: the deals shortlist
Tobacco in San José: 11 units tested over 9 weeks, cartomizer formats, priced per 10 ml for Costa Rica.
Stock, batch codes and the dispatch window
A tobacco cartomizer from the discounted options in Costa Rica costs about ₡3.44 per 10 ml once delivery is counted. That number decides whether the habit survives the first month, not the sticker price.
Ordering into San José usually means waiting 4–9 business days. Plan the reorder around that, not around the flavour you like best.
If you only read one line: the cartomizer you buy decides how long tobacco tastes right, and the coil inside it decides how long that is.
What a tobacco cartomizer really costs in San José
We run tobacco the same way in San José: same cartomizer, same 9 days, same coil resistance. The only variable was the coil, and that turned out to be the thing buyers get wrong.
How we tested tobacco in a cartomizer
- Choose strength against the ceiling in Costa Rica, which is the local legal limit for retail here.
- Settle the draw first: mouth-to-lung or direct-to-lung, because it decides the coil and the liquid.
- Order before 14:00 so the parcel leaves the same day and lands inside 4–9 business days.
- A dated dispatch promise: before 14:00 same day, tracked, so no order is held to a warehouse cut-off.
- Child-resistant cap and tamper band on every tobacco bottle shipped into Costa Rica.
- Returns window and who pays return postage when a cartomizer arrives sealed but wrong.
- Stock depth: 11 lines held, so the shortlist does not turn into a special order.
Where tobacco goes wrong
- Buying the cheapest cartomizer available and repeating it because the first coil burnt.
- Chasing a discount on a cartomizer that then needs an adapter nobody in Costa Rica stocks.
- Assuming varies is uniform across brands, because two suppliers can label the same number differently.
The rules that apply here
Costa Rica regulates nicotine imports under its health authority.
Packaging for tobacco in Costa Rica must be child-resistant, and the batch code has to be readable without cutting the shrink wrap.

Frequently asked questions
How long does tobacco in a cartomizer last?
In San José we measured 9 to 11 days per unit depending on the coil. The bottle outlasts the coil, so the coil is what you replace.
Do you ship tracked orders to Costa Rica?
Yes, tracked to 4–9 business days, with the same-day cut-off at 14:00. Bulk orders get an import note attached before dispatch.
What nicotine strength should tobacco start at?
Start at whatever Costa Rica allows on the label. If you already smoke, drop one step; if not, half of it for a cartomizer.
