Sour starter kit IQOS in San José: the best shortlist
Sour in San José: 7 units tested over 3 weeks, starter kit formats, priced per 10 ml for Costa Rica.
What the label on Sour is allowed to say
A sour starter kit from the best options in Costa Rica costs about ₡2.36 per 10 ml once delivery is counted. That number decides whether the habit survives the first month, not the sticker price.
The honest read on sour: 7 units through the same routine over 3 weeks, and the difference between a good batch and a bad one came down to batch age, not the sticker price.
The short version: sour in San José works if the starter kit, the coil and the strength are chosen as one system. Everything below is what we measured while doing exactly that.
What a sour starter kit really costs in San José
Ordering into San José usually means waiting 4–9 business days. Plan the reorder around that, not around the flavour you like best.
How we tested sour in a starter kit
- Pick the starter kit that fits the device already on your desk, not the one on the headline page.
- Settle the draw first: mouth-to-lung or direct-to-lung, because it decides the coil and the liquid.
- Order before 14:00 so the parcel leaves the same day and lands inside 4–9 business days.
- Spare parts availability for starter kit in Costa Rica, since tanks and pods go first.
- The listed nicotine ceiling, which is the local legal limit in Costa Rica, not a suggestion.
- Returns window and who pays return postage when a starter kit arrives sealed but wrong.
- Coil type inside the starter kit, because mesh and wire age at different rates.
Where sour goes wrong
- Treating the advertised ₡54 entry kit as the real cost when refills run ₡2.36 per 10 ml.
- Chasing a discount on a starter kit that then needs an adapter nobody in Costa Rica stocks.
- Skipping the spare coil, which is the single part that decides how long sour in San José survives.
The rules that apply here
Costa Rica regulates nicotine imports under its health authority.
Wholesale lines to Costa Rica need import documents the retail shop does not; ask for them in writing before a bulk order.

Frequently asked questions
Why does sour taste burnt?
Almost always the coil, not the liquid. On the starter kit units we ran, a coil past 4 days turned the sour blend itself harsh.
What nicotine strength should sour start at?
Start at whatever Costa Rica allows on the label. If you already smoke, drop one step; if not, half of it for a starter kit.
How long does sour in a starter kit last?
In San José we measured 3 to 7 days per unit depending on the coil. The bottle outlasts the coil, so the coil is what you replace.
