How we tested Sour mesh tank here
If you are looking at sour in Costa Rica, the first question is not strength. It is whether the mesh tank you are quoting actually fits the device on your desk.
The honest read on sour: 22 units through the same routine over 4 weeks, and the difference between a good batch and a bad one came down to batch age, not the sticker price.
The short version: sour in San José works if the mesh tank, the coil and the strength are chosen as one system. Everything below is what we measured while doing exactly that.
What a sour mesh tank really costs in San José
There is no single best way to buy IQOS in Costa Rica. There is only the batch that arrived, the coil that came with it, and whether the shop tracks the production run.
How we tested sour in a mesh tank
- Pick the mesh tank that fits the device already on your desk, not the one on the headline page.
- Choose strength against the ceiling in Costa Rica, which is the local legal limit for retail here.
- Settle the draw first: mouth-to-lung or direct-to-lung, because it decides the coil and the liquid.
- Returns window and who pays return postage when a mesh tank arrives sealed but wrong.
- Clear PG/VG ratio on the label, which predicts throat hit more accurately than strength.
- The listed nicotine ceiling, which is the local legal limit in Costa Rica, not a suggestion.
- Spare parts availability for mesh tank in Costa Rica, since tanks and pods go first.
Where sour goes wrong
- Matching strength to the device instead of the draw, which is why sour tastes flat after two days.
- Treating the advertised ₡58 entry kit as the real cost when refills run ₡2.37 per 10 ml.
- Ignoring the batch date on a mesh tank and discovering the listed price was for old stock.

Why does sour taste burnt?
Almost always the coil, not the liquid. On the mesh tank units we ran, a coil past 6 days turned the sour blend itself harsh.
What nicotine strength should sour start at?
Start at whatever Costa Rica allows on the label. If you already smoke, drop one step; if not, half of it for a mesh tank.
How much does a mesh tank cost per 10 ml?
On the last run in San José: about ₡2.37 per 10 ml liquid plus ₡58 for the entry kit, before any bulk discount.
