Salted starter kit IQOS in San José: the cheap shortlist
Salted in San José: 23 units tested over 5 weeks, starter kit formats, priced per 10 ml for Costa Rica.
Coil life, liquid cost and the salted habit
We run salted the same way in San José: same starter kit, same 5 days, same coil resistance. The only variable was the coil, and that turned out to be the thing buyers get wrong.
Salted starter kit reviews tend to be written after one tank. We run 23 units and 5 days per unit, because that is where the honest answer changes.
If you only read one line: the starter kit you buy decides how long salted tastes right, and the coil inside it decides how long that is.
What a salted starter kit really costs in San José
A salted starter kit from the cheapest options in Costa Rica costs about ₡2.67 per 10 ml once delivery is counted. That number decides whether the habit survives the first month, not the sticker price.
How we tested salted in a starter kit
- Choose strength against the ceiling in Costa Rica, which is the local legal limit for retail here.
- Settle the draw first: mouth-to-lung or direct-to-lung, because it decides the coil and the liquid.
- Pick the starter kit that fits the device already on your desk, not the one on the headline page.
- Returns window and who pays return postage when a starter kit arrives sealed but wrong.
- Coil type inside the starter kit, because mesh and wire age at different rates.
- Stock depth: 23 lines held, so the shortlist does not turn into a special order.
- Clear PG/VG ratio on the label, which predicts throat hit more accurately than strength.
Where salted goes wrong
- Treating the advertised ₡40 entry kit as the real cost when refills run ₡2.67 per 10 ml.
- Matching strength to the device instead of the draw, which is why salted tastes flat after two days.
- Ignoring the batch date on a starter kit and discovering the listed price was for old stock.
The rules that apply here
Wholesale lines to Costa Rica need import documents the retail shop does not; ask for them in writing before a bulk order.
Retail sales in Costa Rica sit under the same nicotine the label declares, which is the local legal limit. Anything above it is not sold through this channel.

Frequently asked questions
Why does salted taste burnt?
Almost always the coil, not the liquid. On the starter kit units we ran, a coil past 5 days turned the salted blend itself harsh.
Is salted legal to sell in Costa Rica?
Costa Rica regulates nicotine imports under its health authority.
What nicotine strength should salted start at?
Start at whatever Costa Rica allows on the label. If you already smoke, drop one step; if not, half of it for a starter kit.
