Plain vape pen IQOS in San José: the guide shortlist
Plain in San José: 23 units tested over 8 weeks, vape pen formats, priced per 10 ml for Costa Rica.
How we tested Plain vape pen here
Plain in San José reaches the shelf in vape pen formats, and the starter ones are rarely the ones that stay in stock. Availability, not taste, is what breaks an order.
The honest read on plain: 23 units through the same routine over 8 weeks, and the difference between a good batch and a bad one came down to batch age, not the sticker price.
The short version: plain in San José works if the vape pen, the coil and the strength are chosen as one system. Everything below is what we measured while doing exactly that.
What a plain vape pen really costs in San José
Plain prices move with import duty more than with brand. In San José that means the entry option and the premium option can close to within ₡2.43 per 10 ml.
How we tested plain in a vape pen
- Pick the vape pen that fits the device already on your desk, not the one on the headline page.
- Choose strength against the ceiling in Costa Rica, which is the local legal limit for retail here.
- Order before 14:00 so the parcel leaves the same day and lands inside 4–9 business days.
- The landed price per 10 ml after 4–9 business days, which is the only number worth comparing.
- The listed nicotine ceiling, which is the local legal limit in Costa Rica, not a suggestion.
- Child-resistant cap and tamper band on every plain bottle shipped into Costa Rica.
- Clear PG/VG ratio on the label, which predicts throat hit more accurately than strength.
Where plain goes wrong
- Matching strength to the device instead of the draw, which is why plain tastes flat after two days.
- Chasing a discount on a vape pen that then needs an adapter nobody in Costa Rica stocks.
- Mixing plain with a coil rated for a different wattage, which dulls the flavour and drains liquid faster.
The rules that apply here
Retail sales in Costa Rica sit under the same nicotine the label declares, which is the local legal limit. Anything above it is not sold through this channel.
Costa Rica regulates nicotine imports under its health authority. Shipping of nicotine to Costa Rica runs through tracked freight only, which is why the quoted window is stated per order.

Frequently asked questions
Why does plain taste burnt?
Almost always the coil, not the liquid. On the vape pen units we ran, a coil past 7 days turned the plain blend itself harsh.
Is buying in bulk actually cheaper?
Not automatically. On plain the budget price and the premium price can sit within ₡2.43 per 10 ml once 4–9 business days is counted.
How long does plain in a vape pen last?
In San José we measured 8 to 23 days per unit depending on the coil. The bottle outlasts the coil, so the coil is what you replace.
