Plain prefilled pod IQOS in San José: the budget shortlist
Plain in San José: 7 units tested over 2 weeks, prefilled pod formats, priced per 10 ml for Costa Rica.
Choosing a prefilled pod for plain
Plain prefilled pod reviews tend to be written after one tank. We run 7 units and 2 days per unit, because that is where the honest answer changes.
Plain in a prefilled pod is not the same product you see in a catalogue photo, and the price per 10 ml is where the gap shows. In San José the liquid, the coil and the power setting all have to agree before the flavour actually lands.
The short version: plain in San José works if the prefilled pod, the coil and the strength are chosen as one system. Everything below is what we measured while doing exactly that.
What a plain prefilled pod really costs in San José
If you are looking at plain in Costa Rica, the first question is not strength. It is whether the prefilled pod you are quoting actually fits the device on your desk.
How we tested plain in a prefilled pod
- Choose strength against the ceiling in Costa Rica, which is the local legal limit for retail here.
- Pick the prefilled pod that fits the device already on your desk, not the one on the headline page.
- Order before 14:00 so the parcel leaves the same day and lands inside 4–9 business days.
- The listed nicotine ceiling, which is the local legal limit in Costa Rica, not a suggestion.
- Child-resistant cap and tamper band on every plain bottle shipped into Costa Rica.
- Coil type inside the prefilled pod, because mesh and wire age at different rates.
- A dated dispatch promise: before 14:00 same day, tracked, so no order is held to a warehouse cut-off.
Where plain goes wrong
- Ignoring the batch date on a prefilled pod and discovering the listed price was for old stock.
- Chasing a discount on a prefilled pod that then needs an adapter nobody in Costa Rica stocks.
- Assuming varies is uniform across brands, because two suppliers can label the same number differently.
The rules that apply here
Costa Rica regulates nicotine imports under its health authority.
Retail sales in Costa Rica sit under the same nicotine the label declares, which is the local legal limit. Anything above it is not sold through this channel.

Frequently asked questions
Is buying in bulk actually cheaper?
Not automatically. On plain the budget price and the premium price can sit within ₡3.39 per 10 ml once 4–9 business days is counted.
Is plain legal to sell in Costa Rica?
Costa Rica regulates nicotine imports under its health authority.
Why does plain taste burnt?
Almost always the coil, not the liquid. On the prefilled pod units we ran, a coil past 4 days turned the plain blend itself harsh.
