Plain pod kit IQOS in San José: the online shortlist
Plain in San José: 6 units tested over 2 weeks, pod kit formats, priced per 10 ml for Costa Rica.
What plain costs in San José
A plain pod kit from the online options in Costa Rica costs about ₡2.75 per 10 ml once delivery is counted. That number decides whether the habit survives the first month, not the sticker price.
If you are looking at plain in Costa Rica, the first question is not strength. It is whether the pod kit you are quoting actually fits the device on your desk.
The short version: plain in San José works if the pod kit, the coil and the strength are chosen as one system. Everything below is what we measured while doing exactly that.
What a plain pod kit really costs in San José
There is no single best way to buy IQOS in Costa Rica. There is only the batch that arrived, the coil that came with it, and whether the shop tracks the production run.
How we tested plain in a pod kit
- Settle the draw first: mouth-to-lung or direct-to-lung, because it decides the coil and the liquid.
- Choose strength against the ceiling in Costa Rica, which is the local legal limit for retail here.
- Order before 14:00 so the parcel leaves the same day and lands inside 4–9 business days.
- Stock depth: 6 lines held, so the shortlist does not turn into a special order.
- The listed nicotine ceiling, which is the local legal limit in Costa Rica, not a suggestion.
- A dated dispatch promise: before 14:00 same day, tracked, so no order is held to a warehouse cut-off.
- Returns window and who pays return postage when a pod kit arrives sealed but wrong.
Where plain goes wrong
- Assuming varies is uniform across brands, because two suppliers can label the same number differently.
- Treating the advertised ₡33 entry kit as the real cost when refills run ₡2.75 per 10 ml.
- Chasing a discount on a pod kit that then needs an adapter nobody in Costa Rica stocks.
The rules that apply here

Frequently asked questions
Is plain legal to sell in Costa Rica?
Costa Rica regulates nicotine imports under its health authority.
Why does plain taste burnt?
Almost always the coil, not the liquid. On the pod kit units we ran, a coil past 7 days turned the plain blend itself harsh.
What nicotine strength should plain start at?
Start at whatever Costa Rica allows on the label. If you already smoke, drop one step; if not, half of it for a pod kit.
