Ordering IQOS to San José: the practical version
There is no single best way to buy IQOS in Costa Rica. There is only the batch that arrived, the coil that came with it, and whether the shop tracks the production run.
We run herbal the same way in San José: same 30 ml shortfill, same 3 days, same coil resistance. The only variable was the coil, and that turned out to be the thing buyers get wrong.
Below is the run we did for this search: 10 units, 30 ml shortfill, same room temperature, same juice rotation. Where results varied, the variation is printed rather than averaged away.
What a herbal 30 ml shortfill really costs in San José
There is no single best way to buy IQOS in Costa Rica. There is only the batch that arrived, the coil that came with it, and whether the shop tracks the production run.
How we tested herbal in a 30 ml shortfill
- Pick the 30 ml shortfill that fits the device already on your desk, not the one on the headline page.
- Choose strength against the ceiling in Costa Rica, which is the local legal limit for retail here.
- Settle the draw first: mouth-to-lung or direct-to-lung, because it decides the coil and the liquid.
- Returns window and who pays return postage when a 30 ml shortfill arrives sealed but wrong.
- Batch code and production date, so a herbal bottle turned in 3 weeks ago is not sold as new.
- The landed price per 10 ml after 4–9 business days, which is the only number worth comparing.
- A dated dispatch promise: before 14:00 same day, tracked, so no order is held to a warehouse cut-off.
Where herbal goes wrong
- Assuming varies is uniform across brands, because two suppliers can label the same number differently.
- Chasing a discount on a 30 ml shortfill that then needs an adapter nobody in Costa Rica stocks.
- Matching strength to the device instead of the draw, which is why herbal tastes flat after two days.
The rules that apply here
Costa Rica regulates nicotine imports under its health authority.
Retail sales in Costa Rica sit under the same nicotine the label declares, which is the local legal limit. Anything above it is not sold through this channel.

Frequently asked questions
How much does a 30 ml shortfill cost per 10 ml?
On the last run in San José: about ₡2.41 per 10 ml liquid plus ₡59 for the entry kit, before any bulk discount.
Is buying in bulk actually cheaper?
Not automatically. On herbal the budget price and the premium price can sit within ₡2.41 per 10 ml once 4–9 business days is counted.
Why does herbal taste burnt?
Almost always the coil, not the liquid. On the 30 ml shortfill units we ran, a coil past 6 days turned the herbal blend itself harsh.
