Frozen in San José: 15 units tested over 3 weeks, mesh tank formats, priced per 10 ml for Costa Rica.
How we tested Frozen mesh tank here
Frozen prices move with import duty more than with brand. In San José that means the entry option and the premium option can close to within ₡2.5 per 10 ml.
Most people searching IQOS in Costa Rica are not after a spec sheet. They want to know what it costs, how long it lasts and which shop will still service it in three months.
The short version: frozen in San José works if the mesh tank, the coil and the strength are chosen as one system. Everything below is what we measured while doing exactly that.
What a frozen mesh tank really costs in San José
There is no single best way to buy IQOS in Costa Rica. There is only the batch that arrived, the coil that came with it, and whether the shop tracks the production run.
How we tested frozen in a mesh tank
- Choose strength against the ceiling in Costa Rica, which is the local legal limit for retail here.
- Pick the mesh tank that fits the device already on your desk, not the one on the headline page.
- Settle the draw first: mouth-to-lung or direct-to-lung, because it decides the coil and the liquid.
- The listed nicotine ceiling, which is the local legal limit in Costa Rica, not a suggestion.
- Coil type inside the mesh tank, because mesh and wire age at different rates.
- Returns window and who pays return postage when a mesh tank arrives sealed but wrong.
- Batch code and production date, so a frozen bottle turned in 3 weeks ago is not sold as new.
Where frozen goes wrong
- Treating the advertised ₡30 entry kit as the real cost when refills run ₡2.5 per 10 ml.
- Ignoring the batch date on a mesh tank and discovering the listed price was for old stock.
- Skipping the spare coil, which is the single part that decides how long frozen in San José survives.

Frequently asked questions
What nicotine strength should frozen start at?
Start at whatever Costa Rica allows on the label. If you already smoke, drop one step; if not, half of it for a mesh tank.
Why does frozen taste burnt?
Almost always the coil, not the liquid. On the mesh tank units we ran, a coil past 6 days turned the frozen blend itself harsh.
How much does a mesh tank cost per 10 ml?
On the last run in San José: about ₡2.5 per 10 ml liquid plus ₡30 for the entry kit, before any bulk discount.
