Coffee in San José: 7 units tested over 4 weeks, squonk mod formats, priced per 10 ml for Costa Rica.
What coffee costs in San José
Coffee in San José reaches the shelf in squonk mod formats, and the compared ones are rarely the ones that stay in stock. Availability, not taste, is what breaks an order.
We run coffee the same way in San José: same squonk mod, same 4 days, same coil resistance. The only variable was the coil, and that turned out to be the thing buyers get wrong.
If you only read one line: the squonk mod you buy decides how long coffee tastes right, and the coil inside it decides how long that is.

How we tested coffee in a squonk mod
- Settle the draw first: mouth-to-lung or direct-to-lung, because it decides the coil and the liquid.
- Choose strength against the ceiling in Costa Rica, which is the local legal limit for retail here.
- Pick the squonk mod that fits the device already on your desk, not the one on the headline page.
- The landed price per 10 ml after 4–9 business days, which is the only number worth comparing.
- A dated dispatch promise: before 14:00 same day, tracked, so no order is held to a warehouse cut-off.
- The listed nicotine ceiling, which is the local legal limit in Costa Rica, not a suggestion.
- Child-resistant cap and tamper band on every coffee bottle shipped into Costa Rica.
Where coffee goes wrong
- Treating the advertised ₡34 entry kit as the real cost when refills run ₡2.62 per 10 ml.
- Chasing a discount on a squonk mod that then needs an adapter nobody in Costa Rica stocks.
- Buying the cheapest squonk mod available and repeating it because the first coil burnt.
