Ordering IQOS to San José: the practical version
Coffee prices move with import duty more than with brand. In San José that means the entry option and the premium option can close to within ₡2.52 per 10 ml.
A coffee box mod from the compared options in Costa Rica costs about ₡2.52 per 10 ml once delivery is counted. That number decides whether the habit survives the first month, not the sticker price.
The short version: coffee in San José works if the box mod, the coil and the strength are chosen as one system. Everything below is what we measured while doing exactly that.
What a coffee box mod really costs in San José
There is no single best way to buy IQOS in Costa Rica. There is only the batch that arrived, the coil that came with it, and whether the shop tracks the production run.
How we tested coffee in a box mod
- Order before 14:00 so the parcel leaves the same day and lands inside 4–9 business days.
- Choose strength against the ceiling in Costa Rica, which is the local legal limit for retail here.
- Settle the draw first: mouth-to-lung or direct-to-lung, because it decides the coil and the liquid.
- A dated dispatch promise: before 14:00 same day, tracked, so no order is held to a warehouse cut-off.
- The landed price per 10 ml after 4–9 business days, which is the only number worth comparing.
- Clear PG/VG ratio on the label, which predicts throat hit more accurately than strength.
- Coil type inside the box mod, because mesh and wire age at different rates.
Where coffee goes wrong
- Skipping the spare coil, which is the single part that decides how long coffee in San José survives.
- Mixing coffee with a coil rated for a different wattage, which dulls the flavour and drains liquid faster.
- Ordering in bulk without checking whether couriers in Costa Rica accept nicotine freight.
The rules that apply here
Retail sales in Costa Rica sit under the same nicotine the label declares, which is the local legal limit. Anything above it is not sold through this channel.

Start at whatever Costa Rica allows on the label. If you already smoke, drop one step; if not, half of it for a box mod.
