Vanilla starter kit IQOS in San José: the budget shortlist
Vanilla in San José: 9 units tested over 7 weeks, starter kit formats, priced per 10 ml for Costa Rica.
Where buyers go wrong with vanilla in Costa Rica
Vanilla starter kit reviews tend to be written after one tank. We run 9 units and 7 days per unit, because that is where the honest answer changes.
If you are looking at vanilla in Costa Rica, the first question is not strength. It is whether the starter kit you are quoting actually fits the device on your desk.
The short version: vanilla in San José works if the starter kit, the coil and the strength are chosen as one system. Everything below is what we measured while doing exactly that.
What a vanilla starter kit really costs in San José
Most people searching IQOS in Costa Rica are not after a spec sheet. They want to know what it costs, how long it lasts and which shop will still service it in three months.
How we tested vanilla in a starter kit
- Order before 14:00 so the parcel leaves the same day and lands inside 4–9 business days.
- Choose strength against the ceiling in Costa Rica, which is the local legal limit for retail here.
- Pick the starter kit that fits the device already on your desk, not the one on the headline page.
- Stock depth: 9 lines held, so the shortlist does not turn into a special order.
- The listed nicotine ceiling, which is the local legal limit in Costa Rica, not a suggestion.
- Returns window and who pays return postage when a starter kit arrives sealed but wrong.
- Batch code and production date, so a vanilla bottle turned in 7 weeks ago is not sold as new.
Where vanilla goes wrong
- Ignoring the batch date on a starter kit and discovering the listed price was for old stock.
- Matching strength to the device instead of the draw, which is why vanilla tastes flat after two days.
- Treating the advertised ₡40 entry kit as the real cost when refills run ₡3.11 per 10 ml.
The rules that apply here
Retail sales in Costa Rica sit under the same nicotine the label declares, which is the local legal limit. Anything above it is not sold through this channel.
Wholesale lines to Costa Rica need import documents the retail shop does not; ask for them in writing before a bulk order.

Frequently asked questions
Is buying in bulk actually cheaper?
Not automatically. On vanilla the budget price and the premium price can sit within ₡3.11 per 10 ml once 4–9 business days is counted.
Is vanilla legal to sell in Costa Rica?
Costa Rica regulates nicotine imports under its health authority.
How long does vanilla in a starter kit last?
