Vanilla refill pack IQOS in San José: the cheap shortlist
Vanilla in San José: 14 units tested over 5 weeks, refill pack formats, priced per 10 ml for Costa Rica.
Choosing a refill pack for vanilla
Vanilla prices move with import duty more than with brand. In San José that means the entry option and the premium option can close to within ₡2.4 per 10 ml.
We run vanilla the same way in San José: same refill pack, same 5 days, same coil resistance. The only variable was the coil, and that turned out to be the thing buyers get wrong.
If you only read one line: the refill pack you buy decides how long vanilla tastes right, and the coil inside it decides how long that is.
What a vanilla refill pack really costs in San José
If you are looking at vanilla in Costa Rica, the first question is not strength. It is whether the refill pack you are quoting actually fits the device on your desk.
How we tested vanilla in a refill pack
- Settle the draw first: mouth-to-lung or direct-to-lung, because it decides the coil and the liquid.
- Choose strength against the ceiling in Costa Rica, which is the local legal limit for retail here.
- Order before 14:00 so the parcel leaves the same day and lands inside 4–9 business days.
- The landed price per 10 ml after 4–9 business days, which is the only number worth comparing.
- A dated dispatch promise: before 14:00 same day, tracked, so no order is held to a warehouse cut-off.
- Stock depth: 14 lines held, so the shortlist does not turn into a special order.
- Clear PG/VG ratio on the label, which predicts throat hit more accurately than strength.
Where vanilla goes wrong
- Skipping the spare coil, which is the single part that decides how long vanilla in San José survives.
- Treating the advertised ₡39 entry kit as the real cost when refills run ₡2.4 per 10 ml.
- Mixing vanilla with a coil rated for a different wattage, which dulls the flavour and drains liquid faster.

Frequently asked questions
What nicotine strength should vanilla start at?
Start at whatever Costa Rica allows on the label. If you already smoke, drop one step; if not, half of it for a refill pack.
Why does vanilla taste burnt?
Almost always the coil, not the liquid. On the refill pack units we ran, a coil past 7 days turned the vanilla blend itself harsh.
Is buying in bulk actually cheaper?
Not automatically. On vanilla the budget price and the premium price can sit within ₡2.4 per 10 ml once 4–9 business days is counted.
