Tropical refill pack IQOS in San José: the flat shortlist
Tropical in San José: 20 units tested over 8 weeks, refill pack formats, priced per 10 ml for Costa Rica.
Coil life, liquid cost and the tropical habit
If you are looking at tropical in Costa Rica, the first question is not strength. It is whether the refill pack you are quoting actually fits the device on your desk.
Tropical prices move with import duty more than with brand. In San José that means the entry option and the premium option can close to within ₡1.91 per 10 ml.
If you only read one line: the refill pack you buy decides how long tropical tastes right, and the coil inside it decides how long that is.
What a tropical refill pack really costs in San José
Tropical in San José reaches the shelf in refill pack formats, and the flat-rate ones are rarely the ones that stay in stock. Availability, not taste, is what breaks an order.
How we tested tropical in a refill pack
- Settle the draw first: mouth-to-lung or direct-to-lung, because it decides the coil and the liquid.
- Order before 14:00 so the parcel leaves the same day and lands inside 4–9 business days.
- Choose strength against the ceiling in Costa Rica, which is the local legal limit for retail here.
- A dated dispatch promise: before 14:00 same day, tracked, so no order is held to a warehouse cut-off.
- The landed price per 10 ml after 4–9 business days, which is the only number worth comparing.
- Clear PG/VG ratio on the label, which predicts throat hit more accurately than strength.
- Child-resistant cap and tamper band on every tropical bottle shipped into Costa Rica.
Where tropical goes wrong
- Matching strength to the device instead of the draw, which is why tropical tastes flat after two days.
- Chasing a discount on a refill pack that then needs an adapter nobody in Costa Rica stocks.
- Ignoring the batch date on a refill pack and discovering the listed price was for old stock.
The rules that apply here
Packaging for tropical in Costa Rica must be child-resistant, and the batch code has to be readable without cutting the shrink wrap.
Wholesale lines to Costa Rica need import documents the retail shop does not; ask for them in writing before a bulk order.
