Tropical refill pack IQOS in San José: the budget shortlist
Tropical in San José: 7 units tested over 2 weeks, refill pack formats, priced per 10 ml for Costa Rica.
Coil life, liquid cost and the tropical habit
Ordering into San José usually means waiting 4–9 business days. Plan the reorder around that, not around the flavour you like best.
We run tropical the same way in San José: same refill pack, same 2 days, same coil resistance. The only variable was the coil, and that turned out to be the thing buyers get wrong.
If you only read one line: the refill pack you buy decides how long tropical tastes right, and the coil inside it decides how long that is.
What a tropical refill pack really costs in San José
Tropical prices move with import duty more than with brand. In San José that means the entry option and the premium option can close to within ₡3.11 per 10 ml.
How we tested tropical in a refill pack
- Pick the refill pack that fits the device already on your desk, not the one on the headline page.
- Choose strength against the ceiling in Costa Rica, which is the local legal limit for retail here.
- Settle the draw first: mouth-to-lung or direct-to-lung, because it decides the coil and the liquid.
- Coil type inside the refill pack, because mesh and wire age at different rates.
- The landed price per 10 ml after 4–9 business days, which is the only number worth comparing.
- Spare parts availability for refill pack in Costa Rica, since tanks and pods go first.
- Stock depth: 7 lines held, so the shortlist does not turn into a special order.
Where tropical goes wrong
- Buying the cheapest refill pack available and repeating it because the first coil burnt.
- Chasing a discount on a refill pack that then needs an adapter nobody in Costa Rica stocks.
- Mixing tropical with a coil rated for a different wattage, which dulls the flavour and drains liquid faster.
The rules that apply here
Retail sales in Costa Rica sit under the same nicotine the label declares, which is the local legal limit. Anything above it is not sold through this channel.
Wholesale lines to Costa Rica need import documents the retail shop does not; ask for them in writing before a bulk order.

Frequently asked questions
How much does a refill pack cost per 10 ml?
On the last run in San José: about ₡3.11 per 10 ml liquid plus ₡65 for the entry kit, before any bulk discount.
Why does tropical taste burnt?
Almost always the coil, not the liquid. On the refill pack units we ran, a coil past 7 days turned the tropical blend itself harsh.
