Tropical cartomizer IQOS in San José: the online shortlist
Tropical in San José: 11 units tested over 4 weeks, cartomizer formats, priced per 10 ml for Costa Rica.
Where buyers go wrong with tropical in Costa Rica
Tropical in a cartomizer is not the same product you see in a catalogue photo, and the price per 10 ml is where the gap shows. In San José the liquid, the coil and the power setting all have to agree before the flavour actually lands.
There is no single best way to buy IQOS in Costa Rica. There is only the batch that arrived, the coil that came with it, and whether the shop tracks the production run.
Below is the run we did for this search: 11 units, cartomizer, same room temperature, same juice rotation. Where results varied, the variation is printed rather than averaged away.
What a tropical cartomizer really costs in San José

How we tested tropical in a cartomizer
- Settle the draw first: mouth-to-lung or direct-to-lung, because it decides the coil and the liquid.
- Pick the cartomizer that fits the device already on your desk, not the one on the headline page.
- Choose strength against the ceiling in Costa Rica, which is the local legal limit for retail here.
- Child-resistant cap and tamper band on every tropical bottle shipped into Costa Rica.
- Batch code and production date, so a tropical bottle turned in 4 weeks ago is not sold as new.
- Stock depth: 11 lines held, so the shortlist does not turn into a special order.
- Spare parts availability for cartomizer in Costa Rica, since tanks and pods go first.
Where tropical goes wrong
- Buying the cheapest cartomizer available and repeating it because the first coil burnt.
- Matching strength to the device instead of the draw, which is why tropical tastes flat after two days.
- Treating the advertised ₡37 entry kit as the real cost when refills run ₡3.29 per 10 ml.
