Tropical 30 ml shortfill IQOS in San José: the flat shortlist
Tropical in San José: 17 units tested over 9 weeks, 30 ml shortfill formats, priced per 10 ml for Costa Rica.
Choosing a 30 ml shortfill for tropical
Tropical sounds like one product. It is not: a 30 ml shortfill running varies will taste nothing like the same blend on a different device, which is why we test before we recommend.
If you are looking at tropical in Costa Rica, the first question is not strength. It is whether the 30 ml shortfill you are quoting actually fits the device on your desk.
The short version: tropical in San José works if the 30 ml shortfill, the coil and the strength are chosen as one system. Everything below is what we measured while doing exactly that.
What a tropical 30 ml shortfill really costs in San José
Tropical sounds like one product. It is not: a 30 ml shortfill running varies will taste nothing like the same blend on a different device, which is why we test before we recommend.
How we tested tropical in a 30 ml shortfill
- Choose strength against the ceiling in Costa Rica, which is the local legal limit for retail here.
- Settle the draw first: mouth-to-lung or direct-to-lung, because it decides the coil and the liquid.
- Pick the 30 ml shortfill that fits the device already on your desk, not the one on the headline page.
- Stock depth: 17 lines held, so the shortlist does not turn into a special order.
- Spare parts availability for 30 ml shortfill in Costa Rica, since tanks and pods go first.
- Returns window and who pays return postage when a 30 ml shortfill arrives sealed but wrong.
- Coil type inside the 30 ml shortfill, because mesh and wire age at different rates.
Where tropical goes wrong
- Mixing tropical with a coil rated for a different wattage, which dulls the flavour and drains liquid faster.
- Ordering in bulk without checking whether couriers in Costa Rica accept nicotine freight.
- Matching strength to the device instead of the draw, which is why tropical tastes flat after two days.

Frequently asked questions
Why does tropical taste burnt?
Almost always the coil, not the liquid. On the 30 ml shortfill units we ran, a coil past 4 days turned the tropical blend itself harsh.
Is tropical legal to sell in Costa Rica?
Costa Rica regulates nicotine imports under its health authority.
What nicotine strength should tropical start at?
Start at whatever Costa Rica allows on the label. If you already smoke, drop one step; if not, half of it for a 30 ml shortfill.
