Tobacco squonk mod IQOS in San José: the deals shortlist
Tobacco in San José: 24 units tested over 2 weeks, squonk mod formats, priced per 10 ml for Costa Rica.
How we tested Tobacco squonk mod here
There is no single best way to buy IQOS in Costa Rica. There is only the batch that arrived, the coil that came with it, and whether the shop tracks the production run.
Tobacco prices move with import duty more than with brand. In San José that means the entry option and the premium option can close to within ₡2.99 per 10 ml.
If you only read one line: the squonk mod you buy decides how long tobacco tastes right, and the coil inside it decides how long that is.
What a tobacco squonk mod really costs in San José
We run tobacco the same way in San José: same squonk mod, same 2 days, same coil resistance. The only variable was the coil, and that turned out to be the thing buyers get wrong.
How we tested tobacco in a squonk mod
- Settle the draw first: mouth-to-lung or direct-to-lung, because it decides the coil and the liquid.
- Order before 14:00 so the parcel leaves the same day and lands inside 4–9 business days.
- Choose strength against the ceiling in Costa Rica, which is the local legal limit for retail here.
- Coil type inside the squonk mod, because mesh and wire age at different rates.
- Stock depth: 24 lines held, so the shortlist does not turn into a special order.
- A dated dispatch promise: before 14:00 same day, tracked, so no order is held to a warehouse cut-off.
- Child-resistant cap and tamper band on every tobacco bottle shipped into Costa Rica.
Where tobacco goes wrong
- Matching strength to the device instead of the draw, which is why tobacco tastes flat after two days.
- Buying the cheapest squonk mod available and repeating it because the first coil burnt.
- Ordering in bulk without checking whether couriers in Costa Rica accept nicotine freight.
The rules that apply here
Costa Rica regulates nicotine imports under its health authority.
Retail sales in Costa Rica sit under the same nicotine the label declares, which is the local legal limit. Anything above it is not sold through this channel.

Frequently asked questions
What nicotine strength should tobacco start at?
Start at whatever Costa Rica allows on the label. If you already smoke, drop one step; if not, half of it for a squonk mod.
How long does tobacco in a squonk mod last?
In San José we measured 2 to 24 days per unit depending on the coil. The bottle outlasts the coil, so the coil is what you replace.
Do you ship tracked orders to Costa Rica?
Yes, tracked to 4–9 business days, with the same-day cut-off at 14:00. Bulk orders get an import note attached before dispatch.
