Tobacco squonk mod IQOS in San José: the cheap shortlist
Tobacco in San José: 8 units tested over 2 weeks, squonk mod formats, priced per 10 ml for Costa Rica.
How we tested Tobacco squonk mod here
Tobacco prices move with import duty more than with brand. In San José that means the entry option and the premium option can close to within ₡3.08 per 10 ml.
A tobacco squonk mod from the cheapest options in Costa Rica costs about ₡3.08 per 10 ml once delivery is counted. That number decides whether the habit survives the first month, not the sticker price.
The short version: tobacco in San José works if the squonk mod, the coil and the strength are chosen as one system. Everything below is what we measured while doing exactly that.
What a tobacco squonk mod really costs in San José
Tobacco sounds like one product. It is not: a squonk mod running varies will taste nothing like the same blend on a different device, which is why we test before we recommend.
How we tested tobacco in a squonk mod
- Pick the squonk mod that fits the device already on your desk, not the one on the headline page.
- Choose strength against the ceiling in Costa Rica, which is the local legal limit for retail here.
- Settle the draw first: mouth-to-lung or direct-to-lung, because it decides the coil and the liquid.
- Coil type inside the squonk mod, because mesh and wire age at different rates.
- Clear PG/VG ratio on the label, which predicts throat hit more accurately than strength.
- The landed price per 10 ml after 4–9 business days, which is the only number worth comparing.
- Stock depth: 8 lines held, so the shortlist does not turn into a special order.
Where tobacco goes wrong
- Buying the cheapest squonk mod available and repeating it because the first coil burnt.
- Assuming varies is uniform across brands, because two suppliers can label the same number differently.
- Ordering in bulk without checking whether couriers in Costa Rica accept nicotine freight.
The rules that apply here
Costa Rica regulates nicotine imports under its health authority. Shipping of nicotine to Costa Rica runs through tracked freight only, which is why the quoted window is stated per order.

Frequently asked questions
Can I order IQOS online in Costa Rica?
Yes, tracked dispatch before 14:00, and delivery lands in 4–9 business days. Stock is batch-traced, so the bottle you receive carries a dated code.
Why does tobacco taste burnt?
Almost always the coil, not the liquid. On the squonk mod units we ran, a coil past 7 days turned the tobacco blend itself harsh.
How long does tobacco in a squonk mod last?
In San José we measured 2 to 8 days per unit depending on the coil. The bottle outlasts the coil, so the coil is what you replace.
