Tobacco prefilled pod IQOS in San José: the budget shortlist
Tobacco in San José: 16 units tested over 2 weeks, prefilled pod formats, priced per 10 ml for Costa Rica.
Ordering IQOS to San José: the practical version
Tobacco prefilled pod reviews tend to be written after one tank. We run 16 units and 2 days per unit, because that is where the honest answer changes.
We run tobacco the same way in San José: same prefilled pod, same 2 days, same coil resistance. The only variable was the coil, and that turned out to be the thing buyers get wrong.
If you only read one line: the prefilled pod you buy decides how long tobacco tastes right, and the coil inside it decides how long that is.
What a tobacco prefilled pod really costs in San José
Tobacco prices move with import duty more than with brand. In San José that means the entry option and the premium option can close to within ₡2.17 per 10 ml.
How we tested tobacco in a prefilled pod
- Pick the prefilled pod that fits the device already on your desk, not the one on the headline page.
- Choose strength against the ceiling in Costa Rica, which is the local legal limit for retail here.
- Order before 14:00 so the parcel leaves the same day and lands inside 4–9 business days.
- Clear PG/VG ratio on the label, which predicts throat hit more accurately than strength.
- A dated dispatch promise: before 14:00 same day, tracked, so no order is held to a warehouse cut-off.
- Returns window and who pays return postage when a prefilled pod arrives sealed but wrong.
- The listed nicotine ceiling, which is the local legal limit in Costa Rica, not a suggestion.
Where tobacco goes wrong
- Treating the advertised ₡36 entry kit as the real cost when refills run ₡2.17 per 10 ml.
- Buying the cheapest prefilled pod available and repeating it because the first coil burnt.
- Ignoring the batch date on a prefilled pod and discovering the listed price was for old stock.
The rules that apply here
Wholesale lines to Costa Rica need import documents the retail shop does not; ask for them in writing before a bulk order.
Packaging for tobacco in Costa Rica must be child-resistant, and the batch code has to be readable without cutting the shrink wrap.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a prefilled pod cost per 10 ml?
On the last run in San José: about ₡2.17 per 10 ml liquid plus ₡36 for the entry kit, before any bulk discount.
How long does tobacco in a prefilled pod last?
In San José we measured 2 to 16 days per unit depending on the coil. The bottle outlasts the coil, so the coil is what you replace.
