Sourcherry starter kit IQOS in San José: the budget shortlist
Sourcherry in San José: 9 units tested over 9 weeks, starter kit formats, priced per 10 ml for Costa Rica.
Ordering IQOS to San José: the practical version
A sourcherry starter kit from the budget options in Costa Rica costs about ₡3.07 per 10 ml once delivery is counted. That number decides whether the habit survives the first month, not the sticker price.
We run sourcherry the same way in San José: same starter kit, same 9 days, same coil resistance. The only variable was the coil, and that turned out to be the thing buyers get wrong.
The short version: sourcherry in San José works if the starter kit, the coil and the strength are chosen as one system. Everything below is what we measured while doing exactly that.
What a sourcherry starter kit really costs in San José
Ordering into San José usually means waiting 4–9 business days. Plan the reorder around that, not around the flavour you like best.
How we tested sourcherry in a starter kit
- Settle the draw first: mouth-to-lung or direct-to-lung, because it decides the coil and the liquid.
- Choose strength against the ceiling in Costa Rica, which is the local legal limit for retail here.
- Order before 14:00 so the parcel leaves the same day and lands inside 4–9 business days.
- The landed price per 10 ml after 4–9 business days, which is the only number worth comparing.
- Returns window and who pays return postage when a starter kit arrives sealed but wrong.
- Child-resistant cap and tamper band on every sourcherry bottle shipped into Costa Rica.
- A dated dispatch promise: before 14:00 same day, tracked, so no order is held to a warehouse cut-off.
Where sourcherry goes wrong
- Treating the advertised ₡33 entry kit as the real cost when refills run ₡3.07 per 10 ml.
- Ordering in bulk without checking whether couriers in Costa Rica accept nicotine freight.
- Skipping the spare coil, which is the single part that decides how long sourcherry in San José survives.
The rules that apply here
Retail sales in Costa Rica sit under the same nicotine the label declares, which is the local legal limit. Anything above it is not sold through this channel.
Wholesale lines to Costa Rica need import documents the retail shop does not; ask for them in writing before a bulk order.

Frequently asked questions
What nicotine strength should sourcherry start at?
Start at whatever Costa Rica allows on the label. If you already smoke, drop one step; if not, half of it for a starter kit.
Why does sourcherry taste burnt?
Almost always the coil, not the liquid. On the starter kit units we ran, a coil past 4 days turned the sourcherry blend itself harsh.
Is sourcherry legal to sell in Costa Rica?
Costa Rica regulates nicotine imports under its health authority.
