Sour box mod IQOS in San José: the guide shortlist
Sour in San José: 15 units tested over 7 weeks, box mod formats, priced per 10 ml for Costa Rica.
What sour costs in San José
If you are looking at sour in Costa Rica, the first question is not strength. It is whether the box mod you are quoting actually fits the device on your desk.
Sour prices move with import duty more than with brand. In San José that means the entry option and the premium option can close to within ₡2.71 per 10 ml.
The short version: sour in San José works if the box mod, the coil and the strength are chosen as one system. Everything below is what we measured while doing exactly that.
What a sour box mod really costs in San José
The honest read on sour: 15 units through the same routine over 7 weeks, and the difference between a good batch and a bad one came down to batch age, not the sticker price.
How we tested sour in a box mod
- Pick the box mod that fits the device already on your desk, not the one on the headline page.
- Choose strength against the ceiling in Costa Rica, which is the local legal limit for retail here.
- Settle the draw first: mouth-to-lung or direct-to-lung, because it decides the coil and the liquid.
- A dated dispatch promise: before 14:00 same day, tracked, so no order is held to a warehouse cut-off.
- Child-resistant cap and tamper band on every sour bottle shipped into Costa Rica.
- Spare parts availability for box mod in Costa Rica, since tanks and pods go first.
- The landed price per 10 ml after 4–9 business days, which is the only number worth comparing.
Where sour goes wrong
- Mixing sour with a coil rated for a different wattage, which dulls the flavour and drains liquid faster.
- Assuming varies is uniform across brands, because two suppliers can label the same number differently.
- Ordering in bulk without checking whether couriers in Costa Rica accept nicotine freight.
The rules that apply here
Costa Rica regulates nicotine imports under its health authority. Shipping of nicotine to Costa Rica runs through tracked freight only, which is why the quoted window is stated per order.

Frequently asked questions
Why does sour taste burnt?
Almost always the coil, not the liquid. On the box mod units we ran, a coil past 5 days turned the sour blend itself harsh.
How long does sour in a box mod last?
In San José we measured 7 to 15 days per unit depending on the coil. The bottle outlasts the coil, so the coil is what you replace.
What nicotine strength should sour start at?
Start at whatever Costa Rica allows on the label. If you already smoke, drop one step; if not, half of it for a box mod.
