Sour box mod IQOS in San José: the budget shortlist
Sour in San José: 24 units tested over 5 weeks, box mod formats, priced per 10 ml for Costa Rica.
Stock, batch codes and the dispatch window
Most people searching IQOS in Costa Rica are not after a spec sheet. They want to know what it costs, how long it lasts and which shop will still service it in three months.
Sour box mod reviews tend to be written after one tank. We run 24 units and 5 days per unit, because that is where the honest answer changes.
If you only read one line: the box mod you buy decides how long sour tastes right, and the coil inside it decides how long that is.
What a sour box mod really costs in San José
Sour in a box mod is not the same product you see in a catalogue photo, and the price per 10 ml is where the gap shows. In San José the liquid, the coil and the power setting all have to agree before the flavour actually lands.
How we tested sour in a box mod
- Order before 14:00 so the parcel leaves the same day and lands inside 4–9 business days.
- Pick the box mod that fits the device already on your desk, not the one on the headline page.
- Settle the draw first: mouth-to-lung or direct-to-lung, because it decides the coil and the liquid.
- The listed nicotine ceiling, which is the local legal limit in Costa Rica, not a suggestion.
- The landed price per 10 ml after 4–9 business days, which is the only number worth comparing.
- Coil type inside the box mod, because mesh and wire age at different rates.
- A dated dispatch promise: before 14:00 same day, tracked, so no order is held to a warehouse cut-off.
Where sour goes wrong
- Assuming varies is uniform across brands, because two suppliers can label the same number differently.
- Treating the advertised ₡47 entry kit as the real cost when refills run ₡1.78 per 10 ml.
- Buying the cheapest box mod available and repeating it because the first coil burnt.

Frequently asked questions
What nicotine strength should sour start at?
Start at whatever Costa Rica allows on the label. If you already smoke, drop one step; if not, half of it for a box mod.
Is sour legal to sell in Costa Rica?
Costa Rica regulates nicotine imports under its health authority.
Why does sour taste burnt?
Almost always the coil, not the liquid. On the box mod units we ran, a coil past 5 days turned the sour blend itself harsh.
