Salted squonk mod IQOS in San José: the review shortlist
Salted in San José: 7 units tested over 3 weeks, squonk mod formats, priced per 10 ml for Costa Rica.
What salted costs in San José
Salted prices move with import duty more than with brand. In San José that means the entry option and the premium option can close to within ₡2.81 per 10 ml.
The honest read on salted: 7 units through the same routine over 3 weeks, and the difference between a good batch and a bad one came down to batch age, not the sticker price.
The short version: salted in San José works if the squonk mod, the coil and the strength are chosen as one system. Everything below is what we measured while doing exactly that.
What a salted squonk mod really costs in San José
Salted sounds like one product. It is not: a squonk mod running varies will taste nothing like the same blend on a different device, which is why we test before we recommend.
How we tested salted in a squonk mod
- Choose strength against the ceiling in Costa Rica, which is the local legal limit for retail here.
- Order before 14:00 so the parcel leaves the same day and lands inside 4–9 business days.
- Settle the draw first: mouth-to-lung or direct-to-lung, because it decides the coil and the liquid.
- Coil type inside the squonk mod, because mesh and wire age at different rates.
- Batch code and production date, so a salted bottle turned in 3 weeks ago is not sold as new.
- Stock depth: 7 lines held, so the shortlist does not turn into a special order.
- The listed nicotine ceiling, which is the local legal limit in Costa Rica, not a suggestion.
Where salted goes wrong
- Skipping the spare coil, which is the single part that decides how long salted in San José survives.
- Assuming varies is uniform across brands, because two suppliers can label the same number differently.
- Mixing salted with a coil rated for a different wattage, which dulls the flavour and drains liquid faster.
The rules that apply here
Costa Rica regulates nicotine imports under its health authority.
Packaging for salted in Costa Rica must be child-resistant, and the batch code has to be readable without cutting the shrink wrap.

Not automatically. On salted the budget price and the premium price can sit within ₡2.81 per 10 ml once 4–9 business days is counted.

Almost always the coil, not the liquid. On the squonk mod units we ran, a coil past 6 days turned the salted blend itself harsh.

On the last run in San José: about ₡2.81 per 10 ml liquid plus ₡49 for the entry kit, before any bulk discount.
