Salted refill pack IQOS in San José: the cheap shortlist
Salted in San José: 16 units tested over 2 weeks, refill pack formats, priced per 10 ml for Costa Rica.
What salted costs in San José
Salted in San José reaches the shelf in refill pack formats, and the cheapest ones are rarely the ones that stay in stock. Availability, not taste, is what breaks an order.
Most people searching IQOS in Costa Rica are not after a spec sheet. They want to know what it costs, how long it lasts and which shop will still service it in three months.
The short version: salted in San José works if the refill pack, the coil and the strength are chosen as one system. Everything below is what we measured while doing exactly that.
What a salted refill pack really costs in San José
Salted prices move with import duty more than with brand. In San José that means the entry option and the premium option can close to within ₡2.32 per 10 ml.
How we tested salted in a refill pack
- Choose strength against the ceiling in Costa Rica, which is the local legal limit for retail here.
- Settle the draw first: mouth-to-lung or direct-to-lung, because it decides the coil and the liquid.
- Order before 14:00 so the parcel leaves the same day and lands inside 4–9 business days.
- Clear PG/VG ratio on the label, which predicts throat hit more accurately than strength.
- A dated dispatch promise: before 14:00 same day, tracked, so no order is held to a warehouse cut-off.
- Spare parts availability for refill pack in Costa Rica, since tanks and pods go first.
- Stock depth: 16 lines held, so the shortlist does not turn into a special order.
Where salted goes wrong
- Ordering in bulk without checking whether couriers in Costa Rica accept nicotine freight.
- Matching strength to the device instead of the draw, which is why salted tastes flat after two days.
- Treating the advertised ₡57 entry kit as the real cost when refills run ₡2.32 per 10 ml.
The rules that apply here
Wholesale lines to Costa Rica need import documents the retail shop does not; ask for them in writing before a bulk order.
Retail sales in Costa Rica sit under the same nicotine the label declares, which is the local legal limit. Anything above it is not sold through this channel.

Frequently asked questions
How much does a refill pack cost per 10 ml?
On the last run in San José: about ₡2.32 per 10 ml liquid plus ₡57 for the entry kit, before any bulk discount.
Why does salted taste burnt?
Almost always the coil, not the liquid. On the refill pack units we ran, a coil past 6 days turned the salted blend itself harsh.
What nicotine strength should salted start at?
Start at whatever Costa Rica allows on the label. If you already smoke, drop one step; if not, half of it for a refill pack.
