Plum box mod IQOS in San José: the cheap shortlist
Plum in San José: 7 units tested over 8 weeks, box mod formats, priced per 10 ml for Costa Rica.
Coil life, liquid cost and the plum habit
Plum prices move with import duty more than with brand. In San José that means the entry option and the premium option can close to within ₡3.37 per 10 ml.
A plum box mod from the cheapest options in Costa Rica costs about ₡3.37 per 10 ml once delivery is counted. That number decides whether the habit survives the first month, not the sticker price.
The short version: plum in San José works if the box mod, the coil and the strength are chosen as one system. Everything below is what we measured while doing exactly that.
What a plum box mod really costs in San José
There is no single best way to buy IQOS in Costa Rica. There is only the batch that arrived, the coil that came with it, and whether the shop tracks the production run.
How we tested plum in a box mod
- Pick the box mod that fits the device already on your desk, not the one on the headline page.
- Settle the draw first: mouth-to-lung or direct-to-lung, because it decides the coil and the liquid.
- Order before 14:00 so the parcel leaves the same day and lands inside 4–9 business days.
- A dated dispatch promise: before 14:00 same day, tracked, so no order is held to a warehouse cut-off.
- Clear PG/VG ratio on the label, which predicts throat hit more accurately than strength.
- Batch code and production date, so a plum bottle turned in 8 weeks ago is not sold as new.
- Returns window and who pays return postage when a box mod arrives sealed but wrong.
Where plum goes wrong
- Treating the advertised ₡46 entry kit as the real cost when refills run ₡3.37 per 10 ml.
- Ordering in bulk without checking whether couriers in Costa Rica accept nicotine freight.
- Assuming varies is uniform across brands, because two suppliers can label the same number differently.
The rules that apply here
