Pear refill pack IQOS in San José: the budget shortlist
Pear in San José: 11 units tested over 3 weeks, refill pack formats, priced per 10 ml for Costa Rica.
How to tell a good refill pack from a repack
Pear in a refill pack is not the same product you see in a catalogue photo, and the price per 10 ml is where the gap shows. In San José the liquid, the coil and the power setting all have to agree before the flavour actually lands.
We run pear the same way in San José: same refill pack, same 3 days, same coil resistance. The only variable was the coil, and that turned out to be the thing buyers get wrong.
If you only read one line: the refill pack you buy decides how long pear tastes right, and the coil inside it decides how long that is.
What a pear refill pack really costs in San José
A pear refill pack from the budget options in Costa Rica costs about ₡2.2 per 10 ml once delivery is counted. That number decides whether the habit survives the first month, not the sticker price.
How we tested pear in a refill pack
- Order before 14:00 so the parcel leaves the same day and lands inside 4–9 business days.
- Choose strength against the ceiling in Costa Rica, which is the local legal limit for retail here.
- Pick the refill pack that fits the device already on your desk, not the one on the headline page.
- Child-resistant cap and tamper band on every pear bottle shipped into Costa Rica.
- Returns window and who pays return postage when a refill pack arrives sealed but wrong.
- Batch code and production date, so a pear bottle turned in 3 weeks ago is not sold as new.
- A dated dispatch promise: before 14:00 same day, tracked, so no order is held to a warehouse cut-off.
Where pear goes wrong
- Mixing pear with a coil rated for a different wattage, which dulls the flavour and drains liquid faster.
- Treating the advertised ₡30 entry kit as the real cost when refills run ₡2.2 per 10 ml.
- Buying the cheapest refill pack available and repeating it because the first coil burnt.
The rules that apply here
Costa Rica regulates nicotine imports under its health authority. Shipping of nicotine to Costa Rica runs through tracked freight only, which is why the quoted window is stated per order.

Frequently asked questions
Why does pear taste burnt?
Almost always the coil, not the liquid. On the refill pack units we ran, a coil past 6 days turned the pear blend itself harsh.
Is buying in bulk actually cheaper?
Not automatically. On pear the budget price and the premium price can sit within ₡2.2 per 10 ml once 4–9 business days is counted.
What nicotine strength should pear start at?
Start at whatever Costa Rica allows on the label. If you already smoke, drop one step; if not, half of it for a refill pack.
