Pear cartomizer IQOS in San José: the budget shortlist
Pear in San José: 14 units tested over 5 weeks, cartomizer formats, priced per 10 ml for Costa Rica.
What the label on Pear is allowed to say
Pear in a cartomizer is not the same product you see in a catalogue photo, and the price per 10 ml is where the gap shows. In San José the liquid, the coil and the power setting all have to agree before the flavour actually lands.
Pear prices move with import duty more than with brand. In San José that means the entry option and the premium option can close to within ₡1.75 per 10 ml.
If you only read one line: the cartomizer you buy decides how long pear tastes right, and the coil inside it decides how long that is.
What a pear cartomizer really costs in San José
Pear cartomizer reviews tend to be written after one tank. We run 14 units and 5 days per unit, because that is where the honest answer changes.
How we tested pear in a cartomizer
- Settle the draw first: mouth-to-lung or direct-to-lung, because it decides the coil and the liquid.
- Order before 14:00 so the parcel leaves the same day and lands inside 4–9 business days.
- Choose strength against the ceiling in Costa Rica, which is the local legal limit for retail here.
- The landed price per 10 ml after 4–9 business days, which is the only number worth comparing.
- Spare parts availability for cartomizer in Costa Rica, since tanks and pods go first.
- Coil type inside the cartomizer, because mesh and wire age at different rates.
- Clear PG/VG ratio on the label, which predicts throat hit more accurately than strength.
Where pear goes wrong
- Assuming varies is uniform across brands, because two suppliers can label the same number differently.
- Chasing a discount on a cartomizer that then needs an adapter nobody in Costa Rica stocks.
- Mixing pear with a coil rated for a different wattage, which dulls the flavour and drains liquid faster.
