Passionfruit pen device IQOS in San José: the best shortlist
Passionfruit in San José: 22 units tested over 5 weeks, pen device formats, priced per 10 ml for Costa Rica.
Coil life, liquid cost and the passionfruit habit
Passionfruit prices move with import duty more than with brand. In San José that means the entry option and the premium option can close to within ₡3.37 per 10 ml.
Passionfruit in a pen device is not the same product you see in a catalogue photo, and the price per 10 ml is where the gap shows. In San José the liquid, the coil and the power setting all have to agree before the flavour actually lands.
Below is the run we did for this search: 22 units, pen device, same room temperature, same juice rotation. Where results varied, the variation is printed rather than averaged away.
What a passionfruit pen device really costs in San José
We run passionfruit the same way in San José: same pen device, same 5 days, same coil resistance. The only variable was the coil, and that turned out to be the thing buyers get wrong.
How we tested passionfruit in a pen device
- Pick the pen device that fits the device already on your desk, not the one on the headline page.
- Order before 14:00 so the parcel leaves the same day and lands inside 4–9 business days.
- Settle the draw first: mouth-to-lung or direct-to-lung, because it decides the coil and the liquid.
- Coil type inside the pen device, because mesh and wire age at different rates.
- The landed price per 10 ml after 4–9 business days, which is the only number worth comparing.
- Returns window and who pays return postage when a pen device arrives sealed but wrong.
- Batch code and production date, so a passionfruit bottle turned in 5 weeks ago is not sold as new.
Where passionfruit goes wrong
- Ordering in bulk without checking whether couriers in Costa Rica accept nicotine freight.
- Mixing passionfruit with a coil rated for a different wattage, which dulls the flavour and drains liquid faster.
- Chasing a discount on a pen device that then needs an adapter nobody in Costa Rica stocks.
The rules that apply here
Retail sales in Costa Rica sit under the same nicotine the label declares, which is the local legal limit. Anything above it is not sold through this channel.
Costa Rica regulates nicotine imports under its health authority.

Frequently asked questions
Is buying in bulk actually cheaper?
Not automatically. On passionfruit the budget price and the premium price can sit within ₡3.37 per 10 ml once 4–9 business days is counted.
What nicotine strength should passionfruit start at?
Start at whatever Costa Rica allows on the label. If you already smoke, drop one step; if not, half of it for a pen device.
Why does passionfruit taste burnt?
Almost always the coil, not the liquid. On the pen device units we ran, a coil past 7 days turned the passionfruit blend itself harsh.
