Licorice pen device IQOS in San José: the price shortlist
Licorice in San José: 6 units tested over 4 weeks, pen device formats, priced per 10 ml for Costa Rica.
Choosing a pen device for licorice
Licorice prices move with import duty more than with brand. In San José that means the entry option and the premium option can close to within ₡2.1 per 10 ml.
Licorice in San José reaches the shelf in pen device formats, and the value ones are rarely the ones that stay in stock. Availability, not taste, is what breaks an order.
The short version: licorice in San José works if the pen device, the coil and the strength are chosen as one system. Everything below is what we measured while doing exactly that.
What a licorice pen device really costs in San José
Licorice pen device reviews tend to be written after one tank. We run 6 units and 4 days per unit, because that is where the honest answer changes.
How we tested licorice in a pen device
- Choose strength against the ceiling in Costa Rica, which is the local legal limit for retail here.
- Settle the draw first: mouth-to-lung or direct-to-lung, because it decides the coil and the liquid.
- Order before 14:00 so the parcel leaves the same day and lands inside 4–9 business days.
- Coil type inside the pen device, because mesh and wire age at different rates.
- Child-resistant cap and tamper band on every licorice bottle shipped into Costa Rica.
- Clear PG/VG ratio on the label, which predicts throat hit more accurately than strength.
- Stock depth: 6 lines held, so the shortlist does not turn into a special order.
Where licorice goes wrong
- Assuming varies is uniform across brands, because two suppliers can label the same number differently.
- Skipping the spare coil, which is the single part that decides how long licorice in San José survives.
- Treating the advertised ₡40 entry kit as the real cost when refills run ₡2.1 per 10 ml.

Frequently asked questions
Why does licorice taste burnt?
Almost always the coil, not the liquid. On the pen device units we ran, a coil past 5 days turned the licorice blend itself harsh.
How long does licorice in a pen device last?
In San José we measured 4 to 6 days per unit depending on the coil. The bottle outlasts the coil, so the coil is what you replace.
What nicotine strength should licorice start at?
Start at whatever Costa Rica allows on the label. If you already smoke, drop one step; if not, half of it for a pen device.
