Licorice pen device IQOS in San José: the guide shortlist
Licorice in San José: 6 units tested over 5 weeks, pen device formats, priced per 10 ml for Costa Rica.
Coil life, liquid cost and the licorice habit
Ordering into San José usually means waiting 4–9 business days. Plan the reorder around that, not around the flavour you like best.
Licorice sounds like one product. It is not: a pen device running varies will taste nothing like the same blend on a different device, which is why we test before we recommend.
Below is the run we did for this search: 6 units, pen device, same room temperature, same juice rotation. Where results varied, the variation is printed rather than averaged away.
What a licorice pen device really costs in San José
Licorice sounds like one product. It is not: a pen device running varies will taste nothing like the same blend on a different device, which is why we test before we recommend.
How we tested licorice in a pen device
- Pick the pen device that fits the device already on your desk, not the one on the headline page.
- Order before 14:00 so the parcel leaves the same day and lands inside 4–9 business days.
- Settle the draw first: mouth-to-lung or direct-to-lung, because it decides the coil and the liquid.
- Child-resistant cap and tamper band on every licorice bottle shipped into Costa Rica.
- Batch code and production date, so a licorice bottle turned in 5 weeks ago is not sold as new.
- The listed nicotine ceiling, which is the local legal limit in Costa Rica, not a suggestion.
- Returns window and who pays return postage when a pen device arrives sealed but wrong.
Where licorice goes wrong
- Treating the advertised ₡60 entry kit as the real cost when refills run ₡2.48 per 10 ml.
- Matching strength to the device instead of the draw, which is why licorice tastes flat after two days.
- Buying the cheapest pen device available and repeating it because the first coil burnt.
The rules that apply here
Costa Rica regulates nicotine imports under its health authority.
Retail sales in Costa Rica sit under the same nicotine the label declares, which is the local legal limit. Anything above it is not sold through this channel.

Frequently asked questions
Why does licorice taste burnt?
Almost always the coil, not the liquid. On the pen device units we ran, a coil past 7 days turned the licorice blend itself harsh.
Do you ship tracked orders to Costa Rica?
Yes, tracked to 4–9 business days, with the same-day cut-off at 14:00. Bulk orders get an import note attached before dispatch.
Is buying in bulk actually cheaper?
Not automatically. On licorice the budget price and the premium price can sit within ₡2.48 per 10 ml once 4–9 business days is counted.
