Iced pen device IQOS in San José: the cheap shortlist
Iced in San José: 6 units tested over 5 weeks, pen device formats, priced per 10 ml for Costa Rica.
Where buyers go wrong with iced in Costa Rica
Iced in a pen device is not the same product you see in a catalogue photo, and the price per 10 ml is where the gap shows. In San José the liquid, the coil and the power setting all have to agree before the flavour actually lands.
The honest read on iced: 6 units through the same routine over 5 weeks, and the difference between a good batch and a bad one came down to batch age, not the sticker price.
The short version: iced in San José works if the pen device, the coil and the strength are chosen as one system. Everything below is what we measured while doing exactly that.
What a iced pen device really costs in San José
If you are looking at iced in Costa Rica, the first question is not strength. It is whether the pen device you are quoting actually fits the device on your desk.
How we tested iced in a pen device
- Choose strength against the ceiling in Costa Rica, which is the local legal limit for retail here.
- Settle the draw first: mouth-to-lung or direct-to-lung, because it decides the coil and the liquid.
- Pick the pen device that fits the device already on your desk, not the one on the headline page.
- The listed nicotine ceiling, which is the local legal limit in Costa Rica, not a suggestion.
- Coil type inside the pen device, because mesh and wire age at different rates.
- Clear PG/VG ratio on the label, which predicts throat hit more accurately than strength.
- Batch code and production date, so a iced bottle turned in 5 weeks ago is not sold as new.
Where iced goes wrong
- Ignoring the batch date on a pen device and discovering the listed price was for old stock.
- Matching strength to the device instead of the draw, which is why iced tastes flat after two days.
- Assuming varies is uniform across brands, because two suppliers can label the same number differently.
The rules that apply here
Costa Rica regulates nicotine imports under its health authority. Shipping of nicotine to Costa Rica runs through tracked freight only, which is why the quoted window is stated per order.

In San José we measured 5 to 6 days per unit depending on the coil. The bottle outlasts the coil, so the coil is what you replace.

How much does a pen device cost per 10 ml?
On the last run in San José: about ₡2.18 per 10 ml liquid plus ₡33 for the entry kit, before any bulk discount.
