Honey pen device IQOS in San José: the flat shortlist
Honey in San José: 19 units tested over 6 weeks, pen device formats, priced per 10 ml for Costa Rica.
Choosing a pen device for honey
Honey prices move with import duty more than with brand. In San José that means the entry option and the premium option can close to within ₡3.42 per 10 ml.
Honey pen device reviews tend to be written after one tank. We run 19 units and 6 days per unit, because that is where the honest answer changes.
Below is the run we did for this search: 19 units, pen device, same room temperature, same juice rotation. Where results varied, the variation is printed rather than averaged away.
What a honey pen device really costs in San José
We run honey the same way in San José: same pen device, same 6 days, same coil resistance. The only variable was the coil, and that turned out to be the thing buyers get wrong.
How we tested honey in a pen device
- Pick the pen device that fits the device already on your desk, not the one on the headline page.
- Order before 14:00 so the parcel leaves the same day and lands inside 4–9 business days.
- Choose strength against the ceiling in Costa Rica, which is the local legal limit for retail here.
- The listed nicotine ceiling, which is the local legal limit in Costa Rica, not a suggestion.
- The landed price per 10 ml after 4–9 business days, which is the only number worth comparing.
- Coil type inside the pen device, because mesh and wire age at different rates.
- Returns window and who pays return postage when a pen device arrives sealed but wrong.
Where honey goes wrong
- Ordering in bulk without checking whether couriers in Costa Rica accept nicotine freight.
- Treating the advertised ₡40 entry kit as the real cost when refills run ₡3.42 per 10 ml.
- Mixing honey with a coil rated for a different wattage, which dulls the flavour and drains liquid faster.
The rules that apply here

Frequently asked questions
What nicotine strength should honey start at?
Start at whatever Costa Rica allows on the label. If you already smoke, drop one step; if not, half of it for a pen device.
Is buying in bulk actually cheaper?
Not automatically. On honey the budget price and the premium price can sit within ₡3.42 per 10 ml once 4–9 business days is counted.
Why does honey taste burnt?
Almost always the coil, not the liquid. On the pen device units we ran, a coil past 7 days turned the honey blend itself harsh.
