Herbal pen device IQOS in San José: the best shortlist
Herbal in San José: 19 units tested over 2 weeks, pen device formats, priced per 10 ml for Costa Rica.
How we tested Herbal pen device here
Herbal sounds like one product. It is not: a pen device running varies will taste nothing like the same blend on a different device, which is why we test before we recommend.
Herbal in a pen device is not the same product you see in a catalogue photo, and the price per 10 ml is where the gap shows. In San José the liquid, the coil and the power setting all have to agree before the flavour actually lands.
Below is the run we did for this search: 19 units, pen device, same room temperature, same juice rotation. Where results varied, the variation is printed rather than averaged away.
What a herbal pen device really costs in San José
Most people searching IQOS in Costa Rica are not after a spec sheet. They want to know what it costs, how long it lasts and which shop will still service it in three months.
How we tested herbal in a pen device
- Order before 14:00 so the parcel leaves the same day and lands inside 4–9 business days.
- Pick the pen device that fits the device already on your desk, not the one on the headline page.
- Settle the draw first: mouth-to-lung or direct-to-lung, because it decides the coil and the liquid.
- The listed nicotine ceiling, which is the local legal limit in Costa Rica, not a suggestion.
- The landed price per 10 ml after 4–9 business days, which is the only number worth comparing.
- A dated dispatch promise: before 14:00 same day, tracked, so no order is held to a warehouse cut-off.
- Child-resistant cap and tamper band on every herbal bottle shipped into Costa Rica.
Where herbal goes wrong
- Treating the advertised ₡59 entry kit as the real cost when refills run ₡1.96 per 10 ml.
- Matching strength to the device instead of the draw, which is why herbal tastes flat after two days.
- Assuming varies is uniform across brands, because two suppliers can label the same number differently.
The rules that apply here
Costa Rica regulates nicotine imports under its health authority.
Retail sales in Costa Rica sit under the same nicotine the label declares, which is the local legal limit. Anything above it is not sold through this channel.

Frequently asked questions
How much does a pen device cost per 10 ml?
On the last run in San José: about ₡1.96 per 10 ml liquid plus ₡59 for the entry kit, before any bulk discount.
Is buying in bulk actually cheaper?
Not automatically. On herbal the budget price and the premium price can sit within ₡1.96 per 10 ml once 4–9 business days is counted.
What nicotine strength should herbal start at?
Start at whatever Costa Rica allows on the label. If you already smoke, drop one step; if not, half of it for a pen device.
