Coffee refill pack IQOS in San José: the budget shortlist
Coffee in San José: 6 units tested over 3 weeks, refill pack formats, priced per 10 ml for Costa Rica.
Choosing a refill pack for coffee
The honest read on coffee: 6 units through the same routine over 3 weeks, and the difference between a good batch and a bad one came down to batch age, not the sticker price.
If you are looking at coffee in Costa Rica, the first question is not strength. It is whether the refill pack you are quoting actually fits the device on your desk.
If you only read one line: the refill pack you buy decides how long coffee tastes right, and the coil inside it decides how long that is.
What a coffee refill pack really costs in San José
Coffee in San José reaches the shelf in refill pack formats, and the budget ones are rarely the ones that stay in stock. Availability, not taste, is what breaks an order.
How we tested coffee in a refill pack
- Order before 14:00 so the parcel leaves the same day and lands inside 4–9 business days.
- Settle the draw first: mouth-to-lung or direct-to-lung, because it decides the coil and the liquid.
- Pick the refill pack that fits the device already on your desk, not the one on the headline page.
- Stock depth: 6 lines held, so the shortlist does not turn into a special order.
- Coil type inside the refill pack, because mesh and wire age at different rates.
- Clear PG/VG ratio on the label, which predicts throat hit more accurately than strength.
- A dated dispatch promise: before 14:00 same day, tracked, so no order is held to a warehouse cut-off.
Where coffee goes wrong
- Treating the advertised ₡65 entry kit as the real cost when refills run ₡2.33 per 10 ml.
- Assuming varies is uniform across brands, because two suppliers can label the same number differently.
- Ordering in bulk without checking whether couriers in Costa Rica accept nicotine freight.
The rules that apply here
Retail sales in Costa Rica sit under the same nicotine the label declares, which is the local legal limit. Anything above it is not sold through this channel.
Wholesale lines to Costa Rica need import documents the retail shop does not; ask for them in writing before a bulk order.

Frequently asked questions
Why does coffee taste burnt?
Almost always the coil, not the liquid. On the refill pack units we ran, a coil past 4 days turned the coffee blend itself harsh.
What nicotine strength should coffee start at?
Start at whatever Costa Rica allows on the label. If you already smoke, drop one step; if not, half of it for a refill pack.
How much does a refill pack cost per 10 ml?
On the last run in San José: about ₡2.33 per 10 ml liquid plus ₡65 for the entry kit, before any bulk discount.
