Coffee prefilled pod IQOS in San José: the cheap shortlist
Coffee in San José: 12 units tested over 5 weeks, prefilled pod formats, priced per 10 ml for Costa Rica.
Ordering IQOS to San José: the practical version
Coffee in San José reaches the shelf in prefilled pod formats, and the cheapest ones are rarely the ones that stay in stock. Availability, not taste, is what breaks an order.
Coffee sounds like one product. It is not: a prefilled pod running varies will taste nothing like the same blend on a different device, which is why we test before we recommend.
Below is the run we did for this search: 12 units, prefilled pod, same room temperature, same juice rotation. Where results varied, the variation is printed rather than averaged away.
What a coffee prefilled pod really costs in San José
Coffee sounds like one product. It is not: a prefilled pod running varies will taste nothing like the same blend on a different device, which is why we test before we recommend.
How we tested coffee in a prefilled pod
- Choose strength against the ceiling in Costa Rica, which is the local legal limit for retail here.
- Settle the draw first: mouth-to-lung or direct-to-lung, because it decides the coil and the liquid.
- Pick the prefilled pod that fits the device already on your desk, not the one on the headline page.
- Batch code and production date, so a coffee bottle turned in 5 weeks ago is not sold as new.
- Returns window and who pays return postage when a prefilled pod arrives sealed but wrong.
- Clear PG/VG ratio on the label, which predicts throat hit more accurately than strength.
- The listed nicotine ceiling, which is the local legal limit in Costa Rica, not a suggestion.
Where coffee goes wrong
- Matching strength to the device instead of the draw, which is why coffee tastes flat after two days.
- Assuming varies is uniform across brands, because two suppliers can label the same number differently.
- Buying the cheapest prefilled pod available and repeating it because the first coil burnt.
The rules that apply here
Costa Rica regulates nicotine imports under its health authority. Shipping of nicotine to Costa Rica runs through tracked freight only, which is why the quoted window is stated per order.
Wholesale lines to Costa Rica need import documents the retail shop does not; ask for them in writing before a bulk order.

Frequently asked questions
How much does a prefilled pod cost per 10 ml?
On the last run in San José: about ₡1.87 per 10 ml liquid plus ₡44 for the entry kit, before any bulk discount.
What nicotine strength should coffee start at?
Start at whatever Costa Rica allows on the label. If you already smoke, drop one step; if not, half of it for a prefilled pod.
Why does coffee taste burnt?
Almost always the coil, not the liquid. On the prefilled pod units we ran, a coil past 7 days turned the coffee blend itself harsh.
