Citrus prefilled pod IQOS in San José: the cheap shortlist
Citrus in San José: 18 units tested over 9 weeks, prefilled pod formats, priced per 10 ml for Costa Rica.
Coil life, liquid cost and the citrus habit
There is no single best way to buy IQOS in Costa Rica. There is only the batch that arrived, the coil that came with it, and whether the shop tracks the production run.
Citrus prices move with import duty more than with brand. In San José that means the entry option and the premium option can close to within ₡2.49 per 10 ml.
The short version: citrus in San José works if the prefilled pod, the coil and the strength are chosen as one system. Everything below is what we measured while doing exactly that.
What a citrus prefilled pod really costs in San José
Citrus prices move with import duty more than with brand. In San José that means the entry option and the premium option can close to within ₡2.49 per 10 ml.
How we tested citrus in a prefilled pod
- Choose strength against the ceiling in Costa Rica, which is the local legal limit for retail here.
- Settle the draw first: mouth-to-lung or direct-to-lung, because it decides the coil and the liquid.
- Pick the prefilled pod that fits the device already on your desk, not the one on the headline page.
- Spare parts availability for prefilled pod in Costa Rica, since tanks and pods go first.
- A dated dispatch promise: before 14:00 same day, tracked, so no order is held to a warehouse cut-off.
- Coil type inside the prefilled pod, because mesh and wire age at different rates.
- Stock depth: 18 lines held, so the shortlist does not turn into a special order.
Where citrus goes wrong
- Buying the cheapest prefilled pod available and repeating it because the first coil burnt.
- Ignoring the batch date on a prefilled pod and discovering the listed price was for old stock.
- Treating the advertised ₡66 entry kit as the real cost when refills run ₡2.49 per 10 ml.
The rules that apply here
Costa Rica regulates nicotine imports under its health authority. Shipping of nicotine to Costa Rica runs through tracked freight only, which is why the quoted window is stated per order.
Packaging for citrus in Costa Rica must be child-resistant, and the batch code has to be readable without cutting the shrink wrap.

Frequently asked questions
What nicotine strength should citrus start at?
Start at whatever Costa Rica allows on the label. If you already smoke, drop one step; if not, half of it for a prefilled pod.
Can I order IQOS online in Costa Rica?
Yes, tracked dispatch before 14:00, and delivery lands in 4–9 business days. Stock is batch-traced, so the bottle you receive carries a dated code.
Why does citrus taste burnt?
Almost always the coil, not the liquid. On the prefilled pod units we ran, a coil past 6 days turned the citrus blend itself harsh.
