Citrus pen device IQOS in San José: the flat shortlist
Citrus in San José: 16 units tested over 6 weeks, pen device formats, priced per 10 ml for Costa Rica.
What the label on Citrus is allowed to say
Citrus prices move with import duty more than with brand. In San José that means the entry option and the premium option can close to within ₡2.65 per 10 ml.
A citrus pen device from the flat-rate options in Costa Rica costs about ₡2.65 per 10 ml once delivery is counted. That number decides whether the habit survives the first month, not the sticker price.
The short version: citrus in San José works if the pen device, the coil and the strength are chosen as one system. Everything below is what we measured while doing exactly that.
What a citrus pen device really costs in San José
We run citrus the same way in San José: same pen device, same 6 days, same coil resistance. The only variable was the coil, and that turned out to be the thing buyers get wrong.
How we tested citrus in a pen device
- Order before 14:00 so the parcel leaves the same day and lands inside 4–9 business days.
- Pick the pen device that fits the device already on your desk, not the one on the headline page.
- Choose strength against the ceiling in Costa Rica, which is the local legal limit for retail here.
- Clear PG/VG ratio on the label, which predicts throat hit more accurately than strength.
- Coil type inside the pen device, because mesh and wire age at different rates.
- Batch code and production date, so a citrus bottle turned in 6 weeks ago is not sold as new.
- The listed nicotine ceiling, which is the local legal limit in Costa Rica, not a suggestion.
Where citrus goes wrong
- Ordering in bulk without checking whether couriers in Costa Rica accept nicotine freight.
- Ignoring the batch date on a pen device and discovering the listed price was for old stock.
- Skipping the spare coil, which is the single part that decides how long citrus in San José survives.
The rules that apply here
Retail sales in Costa Rica sit under the same nicotine the label declares, which is the local legal limit. Anything above it is not sold through this channel.

Frequently asked questions
Why does citrus taste burnt?
Almost always the coil, not the liquid. On the pen device units we ran, a coil past 6 days turned the citrus blend itself harsh.
Is citrus legal to sell in Costa Rica?
Costa Rica regulates nicotine imports under its health authority.
How long does citrus in a pen device last?
In San José we measured 6 to 16 days per unit depending on the coil. The bottle outlasts the coil, so the coil is what you replace.
