Caramel refill pack IQOS in San José: the review shortlist
Caramel in San José: 20 units tested over 2 weeks, refill pack formats, priced per 10 ml for Costa Rica.
What the label on Caramel is allowed to say
A caramel refill pack from the reviewed options in Costa Rica costs about ₡2.24 per 10 ml once delivery is counted. That number decides whether the habit survives the first month, not the sticker price.
Caramel prices move with import duty more than with brand. In San José that means the entry option and the premium option can close to within ₡2.24 per 10 ml.
If you only read one line: the refill pack you buy decides how long caramel tastes right, and the coil inside it decides how long that is.
What a caramel refill pack really costs in San José
Caramel in a refill pack is not the same product you see in a catalogue photo, and the price per 10 ml is where the gap shows. In San José the liquid, the coil and the power setting all have to agree before the flavour actually lands.
How we tested caramel in a refill pack
- Settle the draw first: mouth-to-lung or direct-to-lung, because it decides the coil and the liquid.
- Pick the refill pack that fits the device already on your desk, not the one on the headline page.
- Choose strength against the ceiling in Costa Rica, which is the local legal limit for retail here.
- Returns window and who pays return postage when a refill pack arrives sealed but wrong.
- Spare parts availability for refill pack in Costa Rica, since tanks and pods go first.
- A dated dispatch promise: before 14:00 same day, tracked, so no order is held to a warehouse cut-off.
- Stock depth: 20 lines held, so the shortlist does not turn into a special order.
Where caramel goes wrong
- Skipping the spare coil, which is the single part that decides how long caramel in San José survives.
- Treating the advertised ₡50 entry kit as the real cost when refills run ₡2.24 per 10 ml.
- Ordering in bulk without checking whether couriers in Costa Rica accept nicotine freight.

Frequently asked questions
What nicotine strength should caramel start at?
Start at whatever Costa Rica allows on the label. If you already smoke, drop one step; if not, half of it for a refill pack.
Why does caramel taste burnt?
Almost always the coil, not the liquid. On the refill pack units we ran, a coil past 4 days turned the caramel blend itself harsh.
How much does a refill pack cost per 10 ml?
On the last run in San José: about ₡2.24 per 10 ml liquid plus ₡50 for the entry kit, before any bulk discount.
