The short version: caramel in San José works if the prefilled pod, the coil and the strength are chosen as one system. Everything below is what we measured while doing exactly that.
What a caramel prefilled pod really costs in San José
There is no single best way to buy IQOS in Costa Rica. There is only the batch that arrived, the coil that came with it, and whether the shop tracks the production run.
How we tested caramel in a prefilled pod
- Settle the draw first: mouth-to-lung or direct-to-lung, because it decides the coil and the liquid.
- Pick the prefilled pod that fits the device already on your desk, not the one on the headline page.
- Order before 14:00 so the parcel leaves the same day and lands inside 4–9 business days.
- A dated dispatch promise: before 14:00 same day, tracked, so no order is held to a warehouse cut-off.
- Stock depth: 12 lines held, so the shortlist does not turn into a special order.
- The landed price per 10 ml after 4–9 business days, which is the only number worth comparing.
- Child-resistant cap and tamper band on every caramel bottle shipped into Costa Rica.
Where caramel goes wrong
- Chasing a discount on a prefilled pod that then needs an adapter nobody in Costa Rica stocks.
- Treating the advertised ₡56 entry kit as the real cost when refills run ₡1.78 per 10 ml.
- Buying the cheapest prefilled pod available and repeating it because the first coil burnt.
The rules that apply here
Wholesale lines to Costa Rica need import documents the retail shop does not; ask for them in writing before a bulk order.
Packaging for caramel in Costa Rica must be child-resistant, and the batch code has to be readable without cutting the shrink wrap.

| Nicotine ceiling | varies | Legal retail limit in Costa Rica |
| Coil life | ~7 days | The hidden monthly cost |
| Delivery to Costa Rica | 4–9 business days | Buffer the reorder around this |
| Entry kit | ₡56 | What a first order really pays |
| Refill cost | ₡1.78 / 10 ml | The figure that decides the habit |

Frequently asked questions
What nicotine strength should caramel start at?
Start at whatever Costa Rica allows on the label. If you already smoke, drop one step; if not, half of it for a prefilled pod.
How long does caramel in a prefilled pod last?
In San José we measured 8 to 12 days per unit depending on the coil. The bottle outlasts the coil, so the coil is what you replace.
How much does a prefilled pod cost per 10 ml?
On the last run in San José: about ₡1.78 per 10 ml liquid plus ₡56 for the entry kit, before any bulk discount.
