Apple pen device IQOS in San José: the cheap shortlist
Apple in San José: 17 units tested over 3 weeks, pen device formats, priced per 10 ml for Costa Rica.
Coil life, liquid cost and the apple habit
Apple in San José reaches the shelf in pen device formats, and the cheapest ones are rarely the ones that stay in stock. Availability, not taste, is what breaks an order.
A apple pen device from the cheapest options in Costa Rica costs about ₡2.06 per 10 ml once delivery is counted. That number decides whether the habit survives the first month, not the sticker price.
The short version: apple in San José works if the pen device, the coil and the strength are chosen as one system. Everything below is what we measured while doing exactly that.
What a apple pen device really costs in San José
Apple sounds like one product. It is not: a pen device running varies will taste nothing like the same blend on a different device, which is why we test before we recommend.
How we tested apple in a pen device
- Pick the pen device that fits the device already on your desk, not the one on the headline page.
- Choose strength against the ceiling in Costa Rica, which is the local legal limit for retail here.
- Settle the draw first: mouth-to-lung or direct-to-lung, because it decides the coil and the liquid.
- The listed nicotine ceiling, which is the local legal limit in Costa Rica, not a suggestion.
- Child-resistant cap and tamper band on every apple bottle shipped into Costa Rica.
- Coil type inside the pen device, because mesh and wire age at different rates.
- Returns window and who pays return postage when a pen device arrives sealed but wrong.
Where apple goes wrong
- Skipping the spare coil, which is the single part that decides how long apple in San José survives.
- Matching strength to the device instead of the draw, which is why apple tastes flat after two days.
- Mixing apple with a coil rated for a different wattage, which dulls the flavour and drains liquid faster.
The rules that apply here
Retail sales in Costa Rica sit under the same nicotine the label declares, which is the local legal limit. Anything above it is not sold through this channel.
Costa Rica regulates nicotine imports under its health authority.

Frequently asked questions
What nicotine strength should apple start at?
Start at whatever Costa Rica allows on the label. If you already smoke, drop one step; if not, half of it for a pen device.
Why does apple taste burnt?
Almost always the coil, not the liquid. On the pen device units we ran, a coil past 7 days turned the apple blend itself harsh.
How long does apple in a pen device last?
In San José we measured 3 to 17 days per unit depending on the coil. The bottle outlasts the coil, so the coil is what you replace.
